Watching porn inside Assembly is not anti-national, says Karnataka minister

We all make mistakes, says Madhuswamy defending Laxman Savadi

The appointment of Laxman Savadi as the deputy chief minister of Karnataka had triggered a political storm in the state since a black mark had gone down against his name in 2012 when he was forced to resign for watching porn on his mobile phone in the Assembly. The fact that Savadi was made a minister even after losing the last year's elections has provided the opposition with even more ammunition to target the B.S. Yeddyurappa government.

As the controversy refuses to die down, law and parliamentary affairs minister J.C. Madhuswamy on Thursday came out to defend Savadi, saying his act was not anti-national.

Madhuswamy said watching video inside the house was morally wrong, but claimed Savadi had accidentally switched it on and watched it.

“We all make mistakes and there is no point amplifying them and continuing to criticise him (Savadi). He has not cheated anyone or committed any anti-national activity or indulged in pecuniary activity that calls for punishment. I’m not saying watching the video was correct; what I’m saying is there is no point criticising him for the same," Madhuswamy was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

He also said Savadi's organisational skills were much stronger than that of them.
