Congress veteran and ex-chief minister Digvijaya Singh on Friday attacked the BJP afresh, indicating that the latest controversy around him, started only after he made statements regarding involvement of BJP IT Cell and Bajrang Dal members with the Pakistani secret service ISI.

Though he said that only Chief Minister Kamal Nath and Congress President Sonia Gandhi would decide on action regarding allegations against him by State Forest Minister Umang Singhar, the ex-CM and Rajya Sabha MP added that he would appeal to everyone to follow party discipline and ‘not give any chances to the BJP’.

Singhar had called Digvijaya a blackmailer, alleged that the ex-CM was involved in illegal mining and liquor trade as well as transfer-postings of officers and was interfering with the governance of Madhya Pradesh.

Speaking to the media persons for the first time after controversy arose around him on September 2, Singh said he was totally opposed to the ideology propagated by the BJP, as it was against the ethics and founding of our country that was based on the principle of unity in diversity and he would continue to fight the ideology. “I cannot make any compromise on that.”

He further added that he commented on the ISI nexus as the erstwhile BJP government led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan had failed to take any strict action or impose National Security Act (NSA) on Dhruv Saxena of BJP IT Cell and Balram Singh of Bajrang Dal who was arrested in 2017 by the Special Task Force (STF) for taking money from the ISI.

Digvijaya Singh’s statements last week—the BJP and the Bajrang Dal took money from the ISI, more non-Muslims were involved in spying for ISI and attention should be paid to this— stirred up controversy.

Last month, five persons including Balram Singh were arrested in Satna for running an alleged terror-funding racket operated by the ISI. Though Balram Singh was arrested earlier with Dhruv Saxena on similar charges, both were granted bail.

Not bothered by allegations

As for the charges of minister Singhar against him, Digvijaya said that he was in public life for 50 years and not bothered by such charges. He added that the BJP kept looking for cases against him, but failed.

He, however, made it clear that he will not meet Singhar, saying that he was not a diabetic and drank sweet tea. Singhar had earlier said he will offer bitter tea to Digvijaya if he came to meet him (Singhar).

Digvijaya also said that as a member of parliament, he had the right and duty to make recommendations and write letters to the ministers in the state based on complaints/applications that he received from thousands of party workers who worked hard to form the government in the state and seeking a response on them.

As for interference in the government, he said Kamal Nath was not a weak chief minister who would need someone else to run the government.

The former CM also negated any differences with former union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia saying he had no differences with anyone and that he even had talks with Scindia.

Following Digvijaya Singh’s statement, Singhar maintained before the media that he had already said what he wanted to before the party high command and Kamal Nath. However, he later tweeted saying “It is my suggestion that everyone should observe discipline”.
