Even as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) are on the look out for P. Chidambaram who is facing arrest in the INX Media case, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday accused the Narendra Modi government of using the central agencies to target the former finance minister.
“Modi's Govt is using the ED, CBI & sections of a spineless media to character assassinate Mr Chidambaram,” Gandhi tweeted.
“I strongly condemn this disgraceful misuse of power,” he said.

Chidambaram is facing arrest after the Delhi High Court on Tuesday dismissed his petition seeking anticipatory bail in the corruption and money laundering cases related to the Rs 3,500-crore Aircel-Maxis deal and the RS 305 crore INX Media case.
Even though the senior Congress leader approached the Supreme Court seeking protection from arrest, the top court refused to urgently hear his plea.
The Congress, however, firmly expressed its support for the veteran leader, accusing the Modi government of persecuting citizens for “speaking truth to power”.
“A govt that persecutes its citizens for speaking truth to power is only reiterating its own cowardly nature," the party tweeted.
Earlier, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi tweeted: “An extremely qualified and respected member of the Rajya Sabha, @Pchidambaram_IN ji has served our nation with loyalty for decades including as Finance Minister & Home Minister. He unhesitatingly speaks truth to power and exposes the failures of this government, but the truth is inconvenient to cowards so he is being shamefully hunted down. We stand by him and will continue to fight for the truth no matter what the consequences are.”
