Even as the Supreme Court bench hearing the Ayodhya property dispute case has sought to know how a deity and his birthplace could be parties to the legal dispute, a BJP MP has claimed she is a descendant of Lord Ram.

Diya Kumari, a member of the Jaipur royal family and BJP MP for Rajsamand, made the claim while talking to mediapersons on Sunday. Kumari was quoted by NDTV as saying, “Court has said where are the descendants of Lord Ram... Descendants of Lord Ram are all over the world, including our family who descended from his son Kush.” Kumari claimed her father was the “309th descendant” of Ram through his son Kush.

Kumari claimed her family had documents to show they had “descended from Kush” and were members of the Kushwaha or Kachhawa clan. According to NDTV, Kumari said she had “manuscripts, genealogy and documents” about her lineage.

The Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, on Friday had asked whether any anyone from the Raghuvansh (descendants of Ram) still lived in Ayodhya.

Kumari emphasised she wanted the Ram temple to be built “as soon as possible” and was willing to show documents of her lineage to expedite the process. However, Kumari claimed she would not “interfere in the Ayodhya case by taking a lead”.
