Former Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel has been appointed the new governor of Uttar Pradesh. She was the governor of Madhya Pradesh. She will replace 85-year-old Ram Naik, who was in charge of the politically important state. Patel is among the six governors whose appointments were announced on Saturday.

Earlier this month, the Centre had appointed four governors. Among the new appointees is Jagdeep Dhankhar for West Bengal, a key state where the BJP is aiming to expand its influence. Dhankar, a Supreme Court lawyer, had earlier been a BJP MP and MLA from Rajasthan. He is the second Jat leader to be appointed to the gubernatorial house after Satya Pal Malik. Jat-dominated Haryana goes to poll later this year.
Tripura Raj Bhawan will also have a new resident. Seven time Lok Sabha MP from Raipur Ramesh Bais will be the new governor of Tripura. Bais was denied a BJP ticket this time. He will replace Kaptan Singh Solanki.
This reshuffle means that veteran BJP leaders Ram Naik, Kaptan Singh Solanki, Kesharinath Tripathi and Padmanabha Acharya have been relieved of their assignments.
Former interolocutor of Naga talks, R.N. Ravi has been appointed the new governor of Nagaland. A former Kerala cadre IPS officer, Ravi has served as deputy NSA, chief of Joint Intelligence Committee. He had played a key role in the Naga talks. He will replace Acharya.
Lal Ji Tandon, the current governor of Bihar has been transferred and appointed as governor of Madhya Pradesh, while Fagu Chauhan has been appointed as the governor of Bihar. Chauhan had won from the Ghosi assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh seven times on tickets of various parties. He had won from a BJP ticket in 2017. He belongs to a backward community and is also the chairman of the UP state backward commission. His appointment to Bihar Raj Bhawan signals BJP's aim to woo the backward community in the state where the party is in power, along with JD(U).
Earlier, four new governors were appointed. Anusuiya Uikey is the new governor of Chhattisgarh, and Biswa Bhusan Harichandan has taken charge as the governor of Andhra Pradesh. Acharya Devvrat was transferred to Gujarat Raj Bhawan from Himachal Pradesh. In his place, senior BJP leader Kalraj Mishra was made the new governor of Himachal Pradesh. Mishra was denied a BJP Lok Sabha ticket in the 2019 elections as he had crossed 75 years of age.
