Two days after Delhi police filed a murder case in connection with the death of Rohit Tiwari, son of late former Uttarakhand chief minister N.D. Tiwari, his wife Apoorva Shukla was detained along with two domestic helps for questioning by investigators, say reports.

Rohit (40) was brought dead to the Max Hospital in Saket in south Delhi on Tuesday.

A murder case was filed after the autopsy report revealed that Rohit died of "asphyxia" after being strangulated and smothered. After the autopsy report, the case was transferred to the Crime Branch for investigation. The autopsy was conducted at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The Crime Branch officers had visited Rohit's house at Defence Colony on Saturday and questioned his family members including Apoorva, mother Ujjwala, cousin Rajeev, and half-brother Sidharth. His domestic helps were also grilled.

The probe team is also examining the footage of CCTV cameras installed in and around his house.

According to a report in The Hindu on Sunday, Apoorva was allegedly asked about her relationship with her husband and her routine on the day of the incident and the previous day.

Meanwhile, Ujjwala on Sunday accused Apoorva and her family of trying to usurp the property of her two sons—Rohit and Siddharth.

“Apoorva's family is greedy of money, you will get to know. She was having relations with someone else prior to her marriage,” Ujjwala was quoted as saying by ANI.

She further claimed that Apoorva was unhappy after Siddharth wanted to give a share of his property to Rajeev's (Officer on Special Duty of late N.D. Tiwari) son, Kartik. “Rajeev and his wife have been serving us for forty years," she said.

Rohit Tiwari joined the BJP ahead of the 2017 Uttarakhand assembly polls and had recently indicated that he could join the Congress.
