Amid heightened tension across the border, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday offered to defuse tensions with India and resolve the issues through talks.

“All wars in world history have been miscalculated; those who started the wars did not know where it would end,” Imran Khan said in a live TV address.

“So, I want to ask India, with the weapons you and we have, can we afford miscalculation?,” he asked.

“If a war takes place, it will not be in my or (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi's control. If you want any kind of talks on terrorism, we are ready. Better sense must prevail. We should sit down and talk,” he said.

In his TV address, Imran Khan claimed that two Indian MiGs crossed the Line of Control and that they were shot down.

"Our action was only intended to convey that if you can come into our country, we can do the same. Two of their MiGs were shot down (in the ensuing action)," he said.

His comments came minutes after the External Affairs Ministry in New Delhi said that Pakistan Air Force targeted military installations in India in response to Indian counter-terrorism operations but their attempts were foiled successfully though one Indian pilot is "missing in action".

Indian Air Force's 12 fighter jets had crossed the border on Tuesday to demolish the biggest terror training camp of Jaish-e-Mohammad at Balakot, killing over 300 militants. The JeM had claimed responsibility for the attack on a CRPF convoy at Pulwama on February 14.
