Nikah halala is a practice in Islam where the wife, post divorce has to get married to another man, conssumate the marriage and divorce that invidual before the first husband can get married to her again.

A day before the incident, the victim had a fight with her in-laws but the police intervened and both the parties had come to a compromise. According to police, next morning when she was on her way to register a complaint, her brother in law threw acid on her.

The police have arrested her brother-in-law Mohammed Mujhahid and ex village pradhan, Hamid Ali, in this connection. The SSP Bulandshahr K.B Singh has confirmed the arrest. According to Nida Khan, head of Ala Hazrat helping Society, that has been fighting for the cause of Muslim women on the issue of triple talaq and halala, the society would put this matter before the chief minister Yogi Adityanath and would demand stern action against culprits.

She said that the women are not safe and repeated acid attacks on them have been going on  unabated. Acid is being used as a tool to supress their voice. The government needs to be more strict in this regard.
