BJP national president Amit Shah claimed on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has presented before the country a new standard of politics, based on performance and got the country free from dynastic and caste-based politics, and appeasement.

At an event organised by the BJP in Ahmedabad to mark the 42nd anniversary of Emergency, Shah said that the young generation should take inspiration by reading a book written by Modi in Gujarati — “Sangarsh ma Gujarat” (Gujarat in the times of struggle).

Shah observed that the seeds of Emergency were sowed when internal democracy ended in the Congress and dynasty politics took “birth”.

Shah reminded the gathering how RSS workers and young workers of the Jan Sangh were put behind the bars during the Emergency.

The BJP president said that the party observes this day as a black day so that no one in the country forgets the Emergency and no one dares to impose it again.

He said that Congressmen should read the history of Emergency and then level allegations against the BJP.

Felicitating those who had gone behind the bars, Shah said that normally it is good to forget the “black days” but people of the country should never forget Emergency.

Shah remarked that the BJP, which was formed with 10 members, has 11 crore active members and 320 MPs now. The Congress – the oldest party – on the other hand, had 415 MPs but now has around 40 MPs.
