The long march by nearly 50,000 farmers to Mumbai demanding a waiver of loans is likely to be called off later on Monday after the government of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis agreed to the protesters' demands.

Minister Chandrakant Patil claimed the government had accepted the farmers' demands in writing after a delegation of farmers met government representatives. Another minister, Girish Mahajan, said some technical issues surrounding the farmers' demands would be resolved within six months.

The Central Railways has arranged two trains to ferry the passengers back to their home districts.

The farmers have been demanding a complete waiver of loans and a hike in minimum support prices.

Adivasi cultivators are seeking transfer of lands they have been cultivating and implementation of the Forest Rights Act.
