Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) match faced an unexpected turn of events, after LSG captain Rishab Pant exited mid-match.

Previously, he suffered a significant injury in a life-threatening car crash in 2022, resulting in a severe right knee dislocation, multiple ligament tears (ACL/PCL), and injuries to his wrist and ankle. He underwent extensive surgery and rehab, returning to cricket in early 2024.

What happened to Rishab Pant?

Pant suffered a painful blow to his elbow, during the IPL 2026 match that forced medical experts to rush onto the field, as he struggled to move his arm after the incident. After initial assessments, it was decided that it would be better for Pant to walk off the field for further treatment.

The elbow is a hinge joint that connects the upper arm (humerus) to the forearm (radius and ulna), thereby enabling bending, straightening, and rotation. For a wicketkeeper, an elbow injury can become concerning as it affects grip, bat swing, throwing motion and other techniques all at once. Even if the player is wearing an elbow guard, the force of impact can still transmit through the padding.

What to do when you have elbow pain?

According to Mayo Clinic, most elbow pain improves with care at home using P.R.I.C.E. treatment:

  • Protect: Keep the area from getting more injuries
  • Rest: Avoid the activity that caused your injury
  • Ice: Place an ice pack on the sore area for 15 to 20 minutes three times a day
  • Compression: Use a stretchy bandage, sleeve or wrap around the area to reduce swelling and provide support
  • Elevation: Keep your arm raised to help lessen swelling
