In various cultures around the globe, dishes made from animal testicles are common. While the idea appears to be unappealing to many, some think of it otherwise.

Across these societies, consuming animal testicles is often considered to be macho and is believed to improve sexual drive. However, is that true?

Dr Santhosh Jacob, Chief Orthopedic Surgeon at Be Well Orthopedics Sports Medicine & Spine Center in Chennai, has some interesting insights into this food choice.

In a reel on social media platform Instagram, Dr Jacob explains that, much to the contrary belief, eating goat testicles does not increase the testosterone levels. He says it's a myth.

What do they offer?

According to him, goat testicles are a good source of protein. "They’re a high-protein, low-calorie meat option — great for anyone looking to add variety during weight loss or muscle building," Dr Jacob mentions in the social media post.

When it comes to the nutrition breakdown, every 100 grams of goat testicles has less than 90kcal, around 14-20 grams of protein and less than 4 grams of fat.

As per the reel, they are also a micronutrient powerhouse, as it is packed with vitamin B12, iron, zinc and several other micronutrients that support energy, red blood cells and help in immunity.

As a word of caution, Dr Santhosh Jacob mentions that goat testicles could be high in dietary cholesterol and purine-based proteins. Hence, people with high cholesterol or gout can consume them in moderation.
