As per a recent study that was published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, a 15-minute walk a day was associated to a nearly 20 percent reduction in total mortality.
"Regular walking, particularly fast walking, was associated with reduced mortality. The research underscored the importance of regular walking and advised people to include moderate intensity or brisk walking in their daily schedule. Around 85,000 people aged 40-79 were studied for the purpose of the study.
Experts also called for public health interventions to prioritise addressing barriers to daily walking, such as inadequate infrastructure, safety concerns, and limited access to recreational spaces, to facilitate increased walking participation among all populations.
