The launch of the SSI Mantra Tele-Sync Mobile Unit which will deliver robotic-assisted procedures to remote and underserved regions was announced by SS Innovations at the Second Global SSI Multi-Speciality Robotic Surgery Conference (SMRSC), 2025.

This unit combines the SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System through high-speed connectivity with advanced surgical robotics, enabling real-time collaboration between remote and on-site surgical teams. Expert surgeons will be able to perform and guide procedures with minimal latency, making advanced surgical care more accessible than ever before.

Dr Sudhir Srivastava, founder, chairman, and CEO of SS Innovations said that the system was more than just a mobile tele surgical unit. “It’s a movement to democratise and decentralise world-class healthcare,” he said.

High-speed telecommunication and satellite connectivity will break geographical barriers. Specialists from any part of the country, working on the SSI Mantra will be able to guide teams in any part of the country to perform the most complex surgeries in the unit.

Besides performing tele surgical procedures the SSI MantraM will also be used for surgical education, tele-mentoring, and real-time patient data analytics.

SSI Mantra had, in January this year, conducted two telesurgeries with a distance of 286 kilometres between a team in Gurgaon and another in Jaipur. The latency was low- just 35-40 milliseconds. Latency in telesurgery is the time delay between a command and a response.

Later, telesurgery was performed across 1,700+ km from SS Innovations Headquarters, Gurgaon, to Aster CMI Hospital, Bangalore.

Dr Fredric Moll, known as the Father of Surgical Robotics, who also attended the SMRSC said that he was amazed at the progress made in developing the SSI Mantra- which is the country’s first surgical robotic system.

“As robotics continue to evolve and become more intelligent, we are entering a new era of capabilities that will serve both patients and humanity in profound ways,” Moll said.

The development of the unit while transforming surgical infrastructure also adds heft to India’s position as a global leader in robotic surgery and health-tech innovation.
