Is it the perfect Valentine's Day song or a nauseatingly cheesy offering catapulted to fame, because of, well, the internet? After the giddy success of Jimikki Kammal, Shaan Rehman's music, along with the voice of Vineeth Srinivasan, has yet again captured the fancy of the young. The song Manikya Malaraya Poovi from an upcoming Malayalam movie by Omar Lulu called Oru Adaar Love has created waves across the country.
Sure, the song is catchy, and a perfect offering for star-struck teenage lovers, but it was the scene where a college girl winks flirtatiously at a boy that captured the web's attention. For most, it draws up images of good memories (or bad) of the affairs and relationships in schools and colleges. For good, bad or worse, the actor Priya Prakash Varrier is now a major YouTube sensation with channels sprouting up dedicated entirely to her. She garnered one million followers on Instagram in just a single day, reportedly becoming the fastest Indian celebrity to do so.
According to reports, Varrier is a B.Com student from Thrissur, keenly interested in the dance form of Mohiniyattam, who is making her debut with the Malayalam movie.
On Twitter and Facebook, she is now a widely shared meme. The song has garnered more than 4 million views.
