Filmmaker Rajeev Ravi's much-anticipated film Thuramukham, scheduled to release on June 3, has been postponed. The film will now open in theatres on June 10, the makers revealed in a statement.

The period drama which has been rescheduled earlier too revolves around the 'chappa' system widely practiced in the Cochin harbour in the 1940s and 50s. In this system, copper coins would be thrown at the workers waiting for work. The lucky ones who could grab the coins were guaranteed work. Thuramukham is based on K.M. Chidambaram's popular play by the same name.

The film features a stellar cast that includes Nivin Pauly, Indrajith Sukumaran, Joju George, Arjun Ashokan, Sudev Nair, Poornima Indrajith, Nimisha Sajayan, Senthil Krishna, Darshana Rajendran, and Manikandan R Achari.

In a note shared on the actors' social media handles, the team cited legal reasons for the film being postponed yet again. “Our firm resolve to bring our film, which we have made with long, painstaking effort, to the screen, is strengthened more and more with each setback,” they said.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances involving legal issues, the release of 'Thuramukham' has been postponed for a week, once again. The countless reschedulings of the release in the last three years due to Covid, theatre shutdowns, financial troubles and the drastic changes in the film industry, have time and again disappointed film lovers, exhibition sector and the hundreds of people who have worked for the film. But our firm resolve to bring our film, which we have made with long, painstaking effort, to the screen, is strengthened more and more with each setback. This cinematic experience will unroll before you on the silver screens on June 10. We are ready and steadfast in our commitment to make this happen! Always hoping and striving for the best,” the note read.
