Rajinikanth’s "Jailer 2" has been setting new records for Tamil cinema while continuing to challenge the records established by some of the biggest Indian blockbusters. According to box office tracker Sacnilk, the film has collected ₹270.50 crore from overseas markets in just 17 days. This performance places it among the top six highest-grossing South Indian films overseas and makes it one of the biggest international successes in Indian cinema.

With its latest collection, "Jailer 2" has overtaken "KGF Chapter 2", which ended its overseas run with approximately ₹214.15 crore. The film has also set a new record for Tamil cinema, surpassing the international collections of Rajinikanth’s earlier films, "Jailer" (2023) and "2.0" (2018).

The film is now fast approaching the overseas lifetime collection of "Pushpa 2: The Rule", which stands at around ₹271 crore. With just ₹50 lakh separating the two films, "Jailer 2" will easily beat the Allu Arjun-starrer's international box office collection.

However, when comparing the two films' worldwide box office collections, the trajectories look different. "Pushpa 2" enjoyed extraordinary success in the domestic Indian market. It collected approximately ₹1,234.10 crore net in India, with a gross collection of ₹1,471.10 crore. Its Hindi-dubbed version played a major role in this success, contributing around ₹812.14 crore, while the Telugu market added approximately ₹341.48 crore.

In comparison, "Jailer 2" has collected ₹444.75 crore net in India, translating to a domestic gross of ₹520.35 crore by Day 17. Sacnilk reports that the film has also crossed another milestone: crossing the ₹75 crore gross mark in four Indian language markets: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada.

Although "Pushpa 2" remains far ahead in domestic collections, "Jailer 2" has performed remarkably well internationally. The biggest difference between the two films is the overseas markets’ contribution to their worldwide earnings. "Pushpa 2" has earned approximately ₹271 crore overseas, accounting for 15.6% of its total worldwide gross of ₹1,742.10 crore. Meanwhile, "Jailer 2", given the ₹270.50 crore overseas gross, contributed 34.2% of its worldwide gross of ₹790.85 crore.

This means overseas markets contribute a much larger share of the total "Jailer 2" earnings than they do for "Pushpa 2". The main reason is Rajinikanth's popularity among international audiences, particularly in Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, the Gulf countries and Western Europe, markets which have traditionally shown strong support for Tamil cinema and Rajinikanth's films.
