Netflix’s popular legal drama "The Lincoln Lawyer" is officially returning for a fifth and final season in 2027. Although the streaming platform has not announced an exact release date, executive producer and original book author Michael Connelly confirmed the release window directly to fans on Threads this month.

Filming wrapped in July 2026, suggesting that the final season could arrive in early or mid-2027.

Season 5 will be based on "Resurrection Walk", the seventh novel in Michael Connelly’s Mickey Haller book series. The story follows defence lawyer Mickey Haller, played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, as he takes on another challenging case: wrongful conviction. The investigation will involve a dangerous network of corruption and introduce a new family member: his half-sister, Emi Finch, played by Cobie Smulders.

Emi's arrival will be an important part of the final season. She approaches Mickey and asks him to take on a complicated case, setting the stage for a new family relationship and a fresh legal battle. Emi was first introduced in the ending of Season 4.

Alongside the final season, Netflix is also developing a spin-off centred on Emi Finch. The project has attracted strong interest from the streaming platform, which reportedly bought the idea during a pitch meeting and quickly requested a script.

The spin-off sees the involvement of the main creative team behind "The Lincoln Lawyer", including executive producers and showrunners Ted Humphrey, Dailyn Rodriguez and Matthew J. Lieberman.

The creation of Emi Finch comes with an interesting backstory. It happened partly because Netflix could not use another important character from Connelly’s novels: detective Harry Bosch, Mickey Haller’s half-brother. Amazon holds the television rights to Bosch through its "Bosch" and "Bosch: Legacy" series. Emi was therefore introduced to fill a similar family role in Netflix’s adaptation.

The spin-off is still awaiting final approval while agreements with the cast and other talent are finalised. The production team also hopes to keep filming in Los Angeles.
