Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has passed away at the age of 57.

As per reports, he died on October 30, 2026, following an accidental fall that resulted in severe head trauma while at his residence in Mumbai.

The incident reportedly occurred around 2:30 PM on October 30, 2026. While the exact details are not yet known at the moment, it has been reported that the filmmaker wasn't alone at his home and that his wife and two sons were present in the same residence. However,  the family initially did not realise how severe the injury from the fall was.

The Versova police have registered an accidental death report to investigate the exact circumstances. As of now, no foul play is suspected.

Several film industry professionals and trade analysts have expressed shock at such an untimely demise.

Gupta is known for the Hollywood-style heist thriller "Kaante" (2002), loosely based on Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs". His other major crime thrillers, also noted for their stylish approach, included "Musafir" (2004), "Zinda" (2006), and the successful real-life-inspired drama "Shootout at Wadala" (2013). Most of his films sought inspiration from foreign-language films or books.

He forayed into filmmaking by writing and directing "Aatish: Feel the Fire" (1994), starring Sanjay Dutt. He also directed Aishwarya Rai in "Jazbaa" (2015), which marked her return to cinema after a brief hiatus, and the revenge drama Kaabil (2017) starring Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam.

Also a producer through the banner White Feather Films, he co-wrote and produced the gangster thriller "Shootout at Lokhandwala" (2007). His final directorial work comprised "Mumbai Saga" (2021) and "The Miranda Brothers".
