One of television's most celebrated detectives is coming back — in a different way. Author Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch, made iconic by Titus Welliver's scene-dominating performance across two separate shows, will headline a third show titled "Bosch: Start of Watch."

Like "Bosch" and "Bosch: Legacy", "Bosch: Start of Watch" will further expand the world of detective Harry Bosch. This time, though, fans will be taking a time-travel trip to the past: Los Angeles, 1992. The crime-drama prequel series, which explores the early life of the popular fictional detective, is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, January 10, 2027, exclusively on MGM+. For Indian viewers, it is expected to premiere on Prime Video, as the previous two properties did.

The first season will have eight episodes. It will begin with a two-episode premiere, followed by one new episode each week. The season finale is scheduled for February 21, 2027.

Per the official logline, the story follows a 26-year-old Harry Bosch as he begins his career as a rookie patrol officer with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). The city is facing a difficult period marked by racial tensions, gang violence and growing problems within the police force. While Bosch navigates everyday police duties, he becomes involved in a major heist that leads him into a wider world of crime and corruption. As the investigation develops, he faces difficult choices that test his loyalty to the police force and his sense of right and wrong.

The series explores how these early experiences shape Bosch into the determined detective he later becomes. It also looks at the beginnings of his personal code: “Everybody counts, or nobody counts.”

Cameron Monaghan takes on the role of young Harry Bosch, previously played by Titus Welliver in the original series. Omari Hardwick plays Eli Bridges, Bosch’s experienced training officer and mentor. Ariana Guerra appears as Rosa, a fellow rookie officer who develops a romantic relationship with Bosch.

Monaghan is best known for his long-running television roles as Ian Gallagher in the Showtime comedy-drama series "Shameless" and the twin brothers Jerome and Jeremiah Valeska in the DC series "Gotham". He also served as the face and voice of Cal Kestis, the lead protagonist in Respawn Entertainment's hit video games "Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order" and "Star Wars Jedi: Survivor".

The other key characters in "Bosch: Start of Watch" include J.D. Pardo as Cory, Bosch’s foster brother, who makes a living as a professional thief. William Fichtner joins the cast as Calhern, a respected defence lawyer, while Kathleen Wilhoite plays Helen, Bosch’s devoted foster mother. Seamus Dever appears as Officer Hastings, a straightforward training officer known as “Mr Fix It”.

The series is co-created and executive produced by Tom Bernardo, who also serves as showrunner, and Brian Anthony. Author Michael Connelly, who created the Harry Bosch character, is also involved as an executive producer. Other executive producers include Henrik Bastin, Jamie Boscardin Martin, Stephen Kay and Jasmine Russ. Fabel Entertainment and Hieronymus Pictures are leading the production.
