Ravi Teja’s Telugu action-thriller "Irumudi" has made a strong start at the box office, recording impressive numbers during its first two days. The film has shown healthy growth on Day 2 and has quickly emerged as Ravi Teja’s biggest solo opening.
According to reported figures from box office tracking portal Sacnilk, "Irumudi" collected around ₹16.20 crore in net earnings in India on its second day from 2,943 shows. This marks a growth of about 5.9% over its Day 1 net collection of ₹15.30 crore. After two days, the film’s total India net collection stands at approximately ₹31.50 crore, while its India gross has reached around ₹36.57 crore.
The film has also performed well in overseas markets. It earned around ₹4 crore on Day 2, taking its overseas gross to approximately ₹10 crore. With these numbers included, "Irumudi" has crossed ₹46.57 crore in worldwide gross collections in just two days.
Other tracking reports have offered slightly different figures, putting the Day 2 India net at ₹16.10 crore, India’s two-day net at ₹31.40 crore and worldwide gross at ₹47.45 crore. While the exact figures may vary between tracking sources, the overall trend is clear: the film is enjoying a strong opening and maintaining momentum after its first day.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have emerged as the biggest contributors to the film’s domestic performance. The two Telugu-speaking states contributed around ₹15.75 crore on Day 2. Karnataka added approximately ₹2 crore, while Tamil Nadu and the rest of India contributed close to ₹93 lakh collectively.
The strong box-office response is significant because "Irumudi" presents Ravi Teja in a different kind of role. Directed by Shiva Nirvana, the film moves away from the actor’s familiar loud and larger-than-life mass image. Instead, he plays Trinadh, a flawed middle-class family man whose life revolves around his young daughter.
What is 'Irumudi' about?
Set in a remote village in Andhra Pradesh, the story follows Trinadh, his wife Kaveri and their 12-year-old daughter Manikanta. Trinadh is a loving father but struggles with alcoholism and a violent past. His daughter’s concern over his drinking becomes a turning point in his life. She asks him to give up alcohol and undertake the Ayyappa Deeksha, a strict 41-day spiritual vow that involves discipline, abstinence and a pilgrimage to Sabarimala.
Trinadh accepts the challenge because of his love for his daughter and his desire to rebuild his family’s trust. However, his personal journey takes a darker turn when a series of mysterious abductions and crimes targeting young schoolgirls begins to trouble the surrounding villages.
With limited infrastructure and poor connectivity leaving children vulnerable, Trinadh is eventually forced to confront the danger threatening his community. This combination of family emotion, spiritual transformation and action-thriller elements seem to have turned out to be an effective combination that worked in the film's favour.
