It seems every network is now trying to cash in on the popularity of hockey-based romantic dramas like "Heated Rivalry" and "Off Campus". Netflix has grabbed one such. A live-action series adaptation of Hannah Grace's book series "Icebreaker" is being developed by the streamer.

Showrunner Amanda Lasher, best known for her work on "Gossip Girl" and "The Bold Type", will also serve as the writer and executive producer. The pilot episode was penned by Jade Bartlett ("Miller's Girl", "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness"), who is working jointly with Lasher to develop the show, which is backed by Unwell Productions, led by popular podcast host Alex Cooper, Matt Kaplan, and Mina Lefevre.

The story follows the first instalment of the Maple Hills book series. It revolves around Anastasia Allen, a competitive collegiate figure skater training for Olympic gold, and her crossing paths with Nathan Hawkins, the captain of the university's hockey team, chasing an NHL career. When a major facilities mishap forces both the figure skating and hockey teams to share a single ice rink, the tense and awkward proximity and resulting frustration slowly blossom into romance.

No casting and streaming date announcements are out yet. Author Hannah Grace confirmed through social media that all early internet fan-casts are just rumours and that official casting decisions have not been made.

"Off Campus", created by Louisa Levy and based on the book series of the same name by Canadian author Elle Kennedy, premiered with its first season on Prime Video on May 13, 2026. It features a Bridgerton-style format, where each season focuses on a different couple from Briar University's elite hockey team. Season 1 follows Garrett Graham and Hannah Wells, and Prime Video has already renewed it for Season 2.

"Heated Rivalry", on the other hand, is based on the "Game Changers" book series by Rachel Reid, revolving around two rival NHL superstars, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, who hide a secret, years-long enemies-to-lovers relationship. It's streaming in India on Lionsgate Play.
