The possibility of "Extraction 3" being in the works was teased right after the release of "Extraction 2" and now Netflix has officially confirmed that the project is in motion, with director Sam Hargrave back too. Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba (who showed up in the sequel) and Golshifteh Farahani are confirmed to return as well.
"Extraction 3" is being backed by AGBO, the production company run by "Avengers: Infinity War" makers Anthony Russo and Joe Russo.
Angela Russo-Otstot, Chief Creative Officer at AGBO, said in an official statement: “It’s incredibly exciting to continue our partnership with Netflix as we further expand the Extraction universe. It is also our privilege to continue the creative collaboration with Sam Hargrave, Chris Hemsworth, and this outstanding team who have built a stellar action franchise that has proven itself a true standout for audiences around the globe.”
Based on the graphic novel 'Ciudad' by Ande Parks, the story was conceived jointly by Parks and the Russo brothers.
Meanwhile, Korean action superstar Don Lee (Ma Dong-seok) recently completed filming for "Extraction: Tygo", the Korean spinoff of the "Extraction" films, which will be thematically similar but will have no links to the stories of the original films.
The most exciting aspect is that it sees Don Lee reuniting with director Lee Sang-yong, who directed the actor in the second and third films from "The Roundup" series of police thrillers — "The Roundup" and "The Roundup: No Way Out" — which proved to be an immensely successful starring vehicle for the former.
Cha Woo-jin, who wrote "The Roundup: No Way Out", also scripted "Extraction: Tygo".
As for the story, "Extraction: Tygo" will follow the template of the original and will see Don Lee playing a mercenary on a mission to save a kidnapped friend. Lee Jin-wook and Chosun Biz are Lee's co-stars.
