Vijay's final film Jana Nayagan has officially been postponed from January 9. It was an inevitable decision to make for the film's producers KVN Productions, considering the ongoing deadlock regarding the censor certificate. The producers had filed a case at the Madras High Court on January 7, the verdict of which is expected on January 9.
"It is with a heavy heart that we share this update with our valued stakeholders and audiences. The release of Jana Nayagan, eagerly awaited on January 9, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances beyond our control." read the first paragraph of the official statement released by KVN Productions.
As the film's censor certificate is yet to be obtained, a new release date cannot be announced immediately. The producers of Jana Nayagan will have to wait until the Madras High Court verdict, after which a new date will be formally announced. This, of course, means that the tickets from advance booking will all be refunded across the globe.

Till January 6, Jana Nayagan had collected over Rs 45 crore globally from advance booking for January 9 alone. The buzz is unlikely to be affected with a new release date but all the momentum created from the promos will potentially hit a roadblock. As per reports from inside sources, the film was supposed to be given an U/A censor certificate but the CBFC had recommended several cuts and mutes.
The Jana Nayagan team had reportedly made the revisions and the new version was allegedly approved by the Censor Board before the latest twist in developments in the eleventh hour. With no clarity on the censor certificate update, KVN Productions were forced to take the matter to the Madras High Court. Meanwhile, the other Tamil film for Pongal, Parasakthi, has also not received its censor certificate yet.
