When Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films announced Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, not many would have expected it to become the trend-setter it eventually became. The fantasy action flick starring Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen was an Onam release, competing against Mohanlal's Hridayapoorvam and Fahadh Faasil's Odum Kuthira Chaadum Kuthira.
Not only was Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra the runaway Onam winner but it also ended up breaking a plethora of box office records, including the highest grossing Malayalam film of all-time, both worldwide and at the Kerala box office. In one of our earlier articles, we did mention about the list of records that the film has shattered. Earlier this week, it also became the first Malayalam film to gross Rs 300 crore worldwide.
However, there are a three records that remain intact and are unlikely to be broken by Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra.
Highest Mollywood grosser in India outside Kerala
Manjummel Boys recorded a whopping Rs 95.65 gross from states outside Kerala, making it the highest Mollywood grosser from ROI markets. Meanwhile, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra's collections outside Kerala are in the Rs 60 crore region.
Highest Mollywood grosser in Tamil Nadu
This is another record for Manjummel Boys that will remain intact. The film collected an astounding Rs 64 crore in Tamil Nadu, making it the highest-grossing Malayalam film in the state. Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra is a distant second with collections in the range of Rs 24 crore.
Highest Mollywood overseas grosser
Mohanlal's Empuraan collected a mind-boggling $16.90 million from overseas markets, setting a new benchmark for Malayalam films. Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra has also done phenomenal business outside India but will wrap up its business under $14 million. A phenomenal run nevertheless.
