In another historic development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to expand its 'equal pay' concept into domestic cricket. For those unaware, the BCCI had already set up the policy of pay parity for the national senior men's and women's team in 2022, which set the match fees for the Indian men and women cricketers at equal levels.

On Monday (December 22), the BCCI has now expanded the horizon of 'equal pay' into domestic cricket. From now on, male and female cricketers in domestic cricket will get the same match fees. Much like the decision of the national men's and women's teams in October 2022, this is also a landmark decision as the Board tries to increase the depth of cricket across genders.

According to the BCCI's latest directive, domestic women cricketers will earn Rs 50,000 per day for domestic matches and other multi-day fixtures. This fees will be for players who are part of the playing XI while those on the bench will receive Rs 25,000 per game. For T20I games, women cricketers in the playing XI will get Rs 25,000 while those on the bench will get Rs 12,500.

Currently, the pay structure in domestic cricket is at Rs 20,000 per match for those in the playing XI while players on the bench receive Rs 10,000. Understandably, there is a massive hike in the match fees for India's women domestic cricketers and this decision is an aftermath of the ODI World Cup glory achieved by Indian senior women's team in November 2025.

That victory on home soil was India's first-ever World Cup title in senior women's cricket and BCCI is eager to build on the strong momentum created by this historical achievement. While the Women's Premier League (WPL) continues to grow, creating pay parity in domestic cricket is another massive step towards developing the game.
