Women emerged as winners in the hotely contested AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists) elections that took place on Friday, marking a historic shift in the leadership of the association.
Shwetha Menon was elected as the first woman president of AMMA, while Kukku Parameswaran won the post of general secretary. Parameswaran too is the first woman to hold the post.
Ansiba Hassan is the new joint secretary of AMMA. She was elected unopposed as the joint secretary, as 12 other persons who filed nominations for the post withdrew their nominations.

Expressing her happiness over being elected to the post, Shwetha Menon said she will try to bring back those members who parted ways with AMMA.

"As I understand it, there is no gender distinction of male or female in cinema; there are only characters. Film stars lead a life that exists between an 'action' and a 'cut'. Regardless, we have achieved success today. Many thanks to everyone. Those who resigned from 'AMMA' will return. Those who have become estranged should come back; if necessary, we will call them all directly. We will unite everyone and move forward together."
She claimed that the issues within 'AMMA' can be resolved through discussions. "All differences of opinion will be deliberated upon, problems will be resolved, and from now on, everyone will move forward unitedly. Nothing that has occurred within 'AMMA' will be taken lightly. Everything will be discussed and decided in the executive committee meetings."
"In real life, I am also a 'mother' and someone who performs that role well. Now, I consider myself to have 506 more children. I am extremely happy at this moment," she added.
