Following a chain of blockbuster appearances on the OTT platform, The Punisher is all set to make his entry into the silver screen. Having appeared in several Marvel shows and even headlining a spin-off series of his own, the complex vigilante will be wielding his firearms once again in the forthcoming Spider-Man movie. The Hollywood Reporter has reported Jon Bernthal’s return as The Punisher for a new adventure in Sony and Marvel’s latest project – Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

With Tom Holland returning to don the Spider-Man suit, the movie will also see the return of Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, who will reprise their roles as MJ and Ned. Stranger Things star Sadie Sink will also be joining the cast. However, makers are currently keeping her character under wraps, with many speculations regarding her role doing rounds on social media. Shang Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton will take the directorial reins from Jon Watts, the mastermind behind the previous MCU Spider-Man movies.

Brand New Day marks the fourth film centred around Holland’s Peter Parker. The movie will serve as a continuation to its predecessor, Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Parker’s identity was exposed to the entire world, and later on, wiped from everyone’s memory.

Bernthal, who first stepped into the shoes of The Punisher in the 2016 Netflix series Daredevil, became a fan favourite, prior to his role in his spin-off series The Punisher. He made a return this year in the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. Bernthal, famed for his roles in The Wolf of Wall Street, The Accountant, Ford v Ferrari, and Fury, is currently working on the second season of Daredevil: Born Again and Christopher Nolan directorial The Odyssey.

The news regarding Bernthal’s addition to the movie has created significant buzz among fans, with many particularly curious about the dynamics between the two vigilantes possessing clashing ideologies. As the plot remains shrouded in mystery, one can only help but suspect what lies in store: With the morally grounded Spider-Man and the brutal enforcer The Punisher brought to the same plane, will they be unlikely allies or relentless nemeses?
