Producer Antony Perumbavoor, whose Aashirvad Cinemas is one of the companies backing L2: Empuraan, addressed members of the press to clarify some misconceptions regarding the team's decisions, particularly the choice to remove certain portions, in the wake of fierce political backlash against the film from right-wing groups.
Sharing that the team is only taking out 2 minutes and a few seconds from the film and that the final version will likely hit theatres from Tuesday (April 1, 2025), Antony said the decision was not being made out of pressure or fear from any individuals.
"The actor, director and producer must step up in such situations," he said. "We are doing this out of our own volition. Our intention is not to cause hurt to anyone with our films — Mohanlal, Prithviraj and I believe in that. If someone's feelings were hurt because of our film, we have a responsibility to address it. If a similar situation arises in future, we would approach it with the same mindset," he added.
He also rubbished "false" claims from some individuals that Mohanlal had not seen the film. "We have all seen the film, and the reports of Mohanlal not seeing it are false. This doesn't have to be turned into such a major issue. It is running successfully globally" said Antony, while confirming the third instalment that was teased at the end of L2: Empuraan.
On Sunday, Mohanlal posted an apology on Facebook expressing regret for the hurt the film may have caused anyone.
