Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has been quite open about his political leanings, be it through his movies, ad campaigns or social media posts. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about his marriage to actress-author Twinkle Khanna and how they cope with their differing political opinions.
"My wife’s thinking about politics is different than me. We don’t impose on each other. We are completely different,” Akshay said in an interview with ANI. When asked if the couple discuss politics at home, Akshay said they avoid the discussion. “That is one discussion we try and avoid because there’s no point. You know how the other person thinks and you know how you think,” he said.
Akshay further said that sometimes, in a marriage, it is okay to “brush things under the carpet”. “When you want to live happily, I say sometimes it is important because that particular thing, there is no solution to it. Take it and put it under the carpet and live happily,” he said.
Akshay, who was last seen in Mission Raniganj, recently responded to people who call him a 'Modi bhakt'. The actor, who has been the face of many campaigns of the Mod-led government, has also been accused of promoting the saffron party's message through his films like Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. Responding to this, Akshay said that he has done films set during the Congress's rule also. “When I made Airlift, the Congress was in power,” he said.
“Even Mission Raniganj is set during Congress’ tenure. It doesn’t matter who was in power. What matters is what was done for the betterment of the country,” he said.
Mission Raniganj is based on the true story of mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill who successfully rescued 65 miners from the Raniganj mine after its collapse in 1989.
