‘Pushpa: The Rise’, ‘The Tender Bar’, ‘This is Us’: What to watch on OTT platforms this week

Cinephiles are spoilt for choice over the weekend

An interesting line-up of films are scheduled for OTT release over the next few days. From the action entertainer Pushpa: The Rise, which was recently released in cinemas, to the coming-of-age movie The Tender Bar and the critically acclaimed Swahili drama Binti, cinephiles are spoilt for choice over the weekend.

Pushpa: The Rise: Amazon Prime

Release date: January 7

Pushpa: The Rise is an action thriller with Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil in the lead. Directed by Sukumar, the film shows the rise of an young man, Pushpa Raj (Arjun) from a small-time red sanders smuggler to the top of smuggling racket. Released theatrically on December 17, the movie was praised for its brilliant action sequences, cinematography and peppy songs. The movie also features Dhananjaya, Ajay Ghosh, Jagadeesh Prathap Bandari, and Anasuya Bharadwaj. Samantha Ruth Prabhu makes a special appearance for the item song ‘Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava’. The film's sequel, Pushpa: The Rule is scheduled to begin production this year.

Lakshya: Amazon Prime

Telugu sports drama Lakshya, with Naga Shaurya in the lead, is the story of a promising archer who descends into a personal hell of drug abuse and alcohol following a tragic event. After failing the narcotics test and losing his lady love, Pardhu, played by Shaurya, decides to fight back and win the world championship, aided by a new no-nonsense coach, Parthasaradhi (Jagapathi Babu). Directed by Santhossh Jagarlapudi, the movie, which was released in theatres on December 10, promises plenty of thrilling moments for sports movie enthusiasts.

This is Us (Season 6) : Disney+ Hotstar

Pearson family fans are excited. The sixth and final season of the Dan Fogelson's dramedy about a unique set of triplets will drop in Disney+ Hotstar on January 5. The NBC show follows the lives of siblings Kevin, Kate, and Randall and their parents Jack and Rebecca Pearson. The show, set both in the present and in the 1980s, has won a series of TV awards and managed to grab the attention of international audience with great performance and intense storylines.

Anbarivu: Disney+ Hotstar

Tamil action drama Anbarivu, with Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi, Kashmira Pardeshi,  Napoleon, Sai Kumar and Asha Sharath in the lead, promises to be a fun ride, if the trailer of the movie is anything to go by. "A tale of two brothers & a mega family entertainer. Sambavam starts this January 7th on @DisneyPlusHS." the OTT platform had tweeted, announcing the upcoming release of the movie. The movie is produced by Sathya Jyothi Films, and the music is composed by by Hiphop Tamizha .

The Tender Bar: Amazon Prime

Directed by George Clooney, and starring  Ben Affleck, Tye Sheridan, Daniel Ranieri, Lily Rabe, and Christopher Lloyd, The Tender Bar is a coming-of-age drama, set in 1970s. Adapted from the memoir of the same name by J. R. Moehringer, The Tender Bar tells the story of a young boy who moves into his grandfather's house and bonds with his uncle who is a bartender and a few of the interesting patrons at the bar.

Binti: Netflix

Release date: January 7

Swahili drama film Binti has attracted international attention after it was screened at various international festivals. Binti, meaning ‘young woman’ in Swahili, tells the story of four four Tanzanian women—Tumaini, Angel, Stella and Rose—who are unknowingly connected with each other through their ability to persevere extreme hardships in the city of Dar-es-Salaam. The film received rave reviews at the festivals.
