Kollywood actor Meera Mithun landed in a controversy over her casteist statements against Dalits, with various organisations demanding her arrest.

According to media reports, the actor, in a video that has gone viral on social media, is heard claiming that members of Dalit communities face problems because they are involved in crimes. "No one will unnecessarily speak ill of someone without any reason," she said, reported The Newsminute.

Further, she reportedly said film directors and others from Dalit community speak "cheap" things and added that "It is time to chuck out all the SC directors and other people from the film industry."

In the video, she complained against a director for allegedly using her picture for the first look of a movie without her permission.

The video caused an outrage on the social media, and various forums in Tamil Nadu lodged police complaints against the actor.

VCK chief and MP Thol Thirumavalavan sought the arrest of the actor under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
