Narcotics Control Bureau's (NCB) Deputy Director K.P.S. Malhotra, who has been heading the Bollywood drugs case in the aftermath of the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, has tested positive for the coronavirus. Some SIT members are already under quarantine after testing positive for the pathogen. The federal agency has questioned Bollywood actors Deepika Padukone, Shraddha Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan as a part of the investigation. According to multiple reports, Malhotra personally questioned Padukone.
NCB is probing the alleged Bollywood drug nexus, and has till now arrested Rajput's girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik and some suspected drug peddlers. Amid the probe, Bollywood has faced wrath of many on social media and various other platforms for being a negative influence on cinema fans.
Currently, the organisation has its crosshairs tuned into Rhea and Showik. The siblings were "active members of a drug syndicate that was connected with high society personalities and drug suppliers", the NCB said in an affidavit filed before the Maharashtra High Court. The NCB further said both Rhea Chakraborty and her brother had "abetted and financed" drug transactions. The agency had booked them under the stringent section 27A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, it said in the affidavit. Section 27A provides punishment for up to 10 years for financing drug trafficking and harbouring offenders, and also carries a bar on grant of bail.
