The trailer of Alia Bhatt’s film Sadak 2, directed by her father and veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, released on Wednesday. As soon as the trailer released, netizens kicked off a ‘Dislike’ campaign against the actress, and hit the thumbs down icon on YouTube.

As of now, the trailer has garnered over 88,000 likes, while the dislikes have crossed a whopping 1.2 million already. Users have also flooded the comment section with hateful trolls and also demanding ‘justice for Sushant’.

The film’s promotions have been marred by the nepotism debate triggered after actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death and Alia and Mahesh Bhatt have been at the receiving end of many hateful comments.

On Monday, the hashtag #UninstallHotstar also trended on Twitter while many netizens urged people to boycott the film. Produced by Vishesh Films, Sadak 2 will premiere on August 28 on Disney Plus Hotstar VIP.

In July, after Sushant’s brother-in-law launched Nepometer, a platform designed to tell users how 'nepotistic' a film is, the campaign against Bhatt’s film gathered steam. The team released a Nepometer Sadak 2, and found that the film is '98% nepotistic.'

The film is also the veteran filmmaker’s first collaboration with daughter Alia. The film is a sequel to Mahesh’s 1991 film Sadak, featuring Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt.

Recently, Mahesh took to Instagram to share his feelings ahead of the film’s release. He wrote: “Today as we begin the last leg of our journey.I feel unshackled! I carry no burden, no weight. No reputation to hold on to. No mission to accomplish. Nothing to prove to anyone. If the film works it belongs to all of you. If it does not, it’s mine. That’s the duty and also the privilege of the Director . You all gave me so much love and support for which I am very grateful. I love this film because each one of you made this possible. Ahh now I feel like a free bird. My wilderness is calling me. Saying ‘Mahesh chalein?’”
