The war for the 200 million strong mobile gaming market just heated up considerably. A week after the popular franchise Call of Duty announced a mobile game at the Game Developer’s Conference in San Francisco, Digit reports that the title will be coming to India by November.

Call of Duty: Mobile will be a fully-featured first person shooter (FPS), playable on both iOS and Android. Similar to other popular mobile games like PUBG: Mobile and Fortnite, it will be free-to-play, relying on micro-transactions to generate revenue.

The new game will feature familiar maps, modes and characters from the COD universe—Nuketown makes an entry, as does Captain Price and the zombie mode. All this coupled with the series’ endless gun-play customisations promises a highly compelling mobile experience.

The game will be developed by Tencent Games and Activision. Tencent notably built up PUBG: Mobile into one of the world’s top-played games with 200 million users by the end of 2018. Tencent’s Timi Studio will be responsible for development, which will take place using the Unity Engine. At the GDC, Activision’s vice president of the mobile division promised “console-quality PvP action in the palm of your hand” with “60fps performance, low latencies and silky-smooth responsive controls”.

Long before mobile gaming exploded onto the scene, Call of Duty was the world’s predominant shooter experience. Beginning as a World War II based FPS in 2003, the franchise expanded into popular culture with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops in 2010. Since then, it has sold more than 250 million titles worldwide. By 2019, Call of Duty had been the number one selling video game franchise in the United States for ten consecutive years.
