The Gen Z might be getting some social media trolling for being job-hoppers, as the average job tenure of this generation, as per a study by a recruitment company, is 1.1 years in the first five years of their careers. There are also claims that the Gen Z is unprepared for the workplace. However, the Gen Z has a great admirer in none other than Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi.

The Indian Army chief, during an interactive session held as part of 'Sena Samwad' hosted by 'Uniform Unveiled' at the Manekshaw Centre, hailed the Gen Z, pointing out that they are more adaptable, digitally skilled and socially aware when compared to their previous generations.

According to him, the Gen Z is at least 10 times better than his generation.

"They are much more adaptable. They are socially aware, globally connected, and digitally fluent."

He said the Indian Army, which has marked 2026-27 as the year of networking and data centricity,  started the internship for which it received one lakh applications for 100 vacancies.

Pointing out that in today's battlefields, it is not tank vs tank, but what India requires is a battlefield equaliser, he said, "If you have me a simple solution to a difficult problem, I think you are the ones who are going to win battles for us."

He noted that the military is changing rapidly. Modernisation is taking place so fast, and technology is becoming stale in 18 months, he said, and added, "If you have to adapt to that kind of technology, how are you going about it? Therefore, the ripples of change have to be felt at every level, starting from a soldier to a major to a major general, till a general like me."
