In a move that will significantly enhance the combat capabilities of Indian Navy's submarine fleet, the defence ministry signed a contract with Russia for procurement of anti-ship cruise missiles.
The announcement in this regard was made by the defence ministry in a social media post.
The contract was inked in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.

"Ministry of Defence today inked a contract with Russia for the procurement of Anti-Ship Cruise Missiles in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi. These missiles will significantly augment the combat capabilities of the @indiannavy's submarine fleet," the tweet by the ministry read.
India and Russia share a longstanding defence collaboration, characterised by cooperation in military technology and joint exercises.
Both countries have conducted several joint exercises across land, air and sea domains. Exercises such as INDRA, AVIA INDRA and INDRA NAVY, serve as platforms for sharing best practices, refining joint operational tactics drills and procedures, and deepening mutual understanding, a defence ministry release had earlier said.
