From the 'Pralay' missile to a tri-services tableau, the 76th Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path in New Delhi on Sunday featured many firsts.

On Sunday, Captain Dimple Singh Bhati set a record by becoming the first woman Army officer to present a salute to President Droupadi Murmu on the occasion of 76th Republic Day.

She presented the salute to President Murmu on a 12-foot ladder mounted on a moving motorcycle.

Captain Bhati presented a sharp and graceful salute to the president, embodying the courage, precision and excellence of the Indian Army's Corps of Signals, known as 'The Dare Devils'.

Her sister too is an Indian Army officer, Captain Divya Singh Bhati. Their father is a retired banker.

She was awarded the Silver Medal at the passing out parade of the Officers Training Academy in Chennai, coming second among 180 cadets.

At a time India's armed forces are making significant strides towards gender inclusivity, Captain Bhati's achievement is sure to inspire many women both inside and outside the armed forces.
