Ashok Leyland has won a significant legal victory against the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), with an arbitral tribunal awarding the company ₹222.65 crore plus interest over a bus-supply dispute dating back to 2009-11.

In a regulatory filing on July 13, 2026, Ashok Leyland disclosed that the Arbitral Tribunal in New Delhi passed a majority award on July 6, 2026, partly allowing Ashok Leyland's claim while rejecting DTC's entire counterclaim of ₹136 crore.

DTC is yet to post a statement on its next steps.

The dispute traces back to buses supplied by Ashok Leyland to DTC between 2009 and 2011 under a public tender, after which the company raised certain claims and initiated arbitration proceedings in 2013.

Ashok Leyland's original claim stood at ₹445 crore, of which the tribunal has now awarded ₹222.65 crore, along with interest at 10 per cent per annum covering the pre-arbitration period, the pendente lite period, and the period from the award date until actual payment, plus legal costs of ₹2.96 crore.

The company stated that it is still reviewing the award to ascertain the final amount inclusive of interest and is considering its options regarding the portion of the original claim that was not granted. The filing noted that the financial implications of the award are still being ascertained, meaning the exact net gain to Ashok Leyland's books remains unconfirmed for now.

This legal win comes on the back of a stellar financial year for the Chennai-based commercial vehicle maker. Ashok Leyland, back in May, posted its highest-ever quarterly and annual revenues, EBITDA and profit after tax for Q4 and FY26, with full-year revenue rising 14 per cent to ₹44,007 crore and profit after tax growing 8 per cent to ₹3,566 crore, a figure that included a one-time ₹308 crore charge related to the new Labour Code.

Commercial vehicle volumes for the year touched an all-time high of 220,437 units, while export volumes also hit a record 18,082 units, and the company closed the year with a net cash position of ₹5,899 crore.

On the bourses, Ashok Leyland's stock has cooled off from its 52-week high of ₹215.35 touched in early July, closing at ₹157.49 on 10 July 2026. Today, it traded to as high as ₹158.96 apiece intraday on the NSE.
