KPIT founder and chairman Ravi Pandit dies aged 71

KPIT Technologies mourns the death of its Co-founder and Chairman, S.B. Ravi Pandit, a leader in automotive mobility software engineering

The co-founder and chairman of KPIT Technologies, Ravi Pandit, one of India’s leading automotive mobility software engineering firms, died on Friday.

The company confirmed the passing of the 71-year-old in an exchange filing.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of our Founder and Chairman of the Board, Mr. S. B. (Ravi) Pandit on the morning of May 8, 2026 in Pune," the company said in a filing.

His last rites will be performed at Vaikunth Crematorium.

Pandit built and led several organisations over the last three decades. Apart from KPIT technologies, he also chaired Kitane and Pandit Chartered Accountants KPCA, one of the largest Indian professional service firms. It employed over 1,200 experts in 15 countries.

He also co-founded and guided institutions such as the Pune International Centre and Janwani, and strengthened policy research by supporting the Centre for Sustainable Development at the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics.

Pandit, an alumnus of the MIT Sloan School of Management, co-founded KPIT with Kishor Patil in 1990. At the time, the company was known as KPIT Cummins and was in a limited technology segment

KPIT focuses on mobility technologies, embedded software and vehicle engineering solutions. The company’s software is used in millions of vehicles across the US, Europe and Asia.

KPIT said that it was deeply saddened by the death of its founder and chairman and recognised his lasting contribution to the growth and culture of the organisation in its filing.

Pandit was also the co-author of the award winning book Leapfrogging to Pole-vaulting.
