The new Maruti Suzuki Swift which India has been awaiting since its release in Japan last year, is finally here. The 4th generation hatchback is set for launch on Thursday. Bookings are already open at Rs11,000 at Maruti’s dealerships and online.

What's the price of new Maruti Suzuki Swift?

The price of the 4th gen of Maruti Suzuki Swift is expected to start at Rs 6.5 lakh for the base model and can go up to Rs 10 lakh for the high-end variants, rivalling Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Renault Triber and Tata Tiago among others.

Variants

Maruti Suzuki will be presenting Swift in the following variants; the LXi, VXi, ZXi, VXi (O), Zxi+, according to HT Auto.

Exterior

The changes made are subtle but sharp, according to Auto Car India. With a new bumper, redesigned radiator grille, evolved lighting setup and a few changes to the emblem placement, the front looks crisp. The sides show prominent shoulder lines with some changes in the handle placement, and a new design of alloy wheels. Moving to the rear end of the car, with a restyled rear bumper, new tail lamps in a C-shape for the hatch and a rear-end camera, the new Swift has a promising feature-laden look.

Maintaining the wheelbase at exactly 2,450 mm like the previous gen model, the manufacturer has managed to make the new gen swift 15mm longer, 40mm narrower and 30mm taller.

Interior

Resembling consoles of Baleno, Fronx, and Brezza, the cabin will have a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, wireless charger, revamped central air-con vents, a new sleek HVAC switchgear substituting the circular knobs, and an updated instrument cluster. The driver’s side of the dashboard will remain the same, with a dual pod analogue setup and a TFT multi information display.

Other equipment such as cruise control, auto-climate control, push button start/stop, steering mounted controls, electrically adjustable wing mirrors will be there as before. Six airbags as standard is also expected along with ESC and hill start assist. 

Engine

Swift has switched its older unit for a 1.2 litre 3-cylinder Z12E petrol engine with a performance rating of 82hp and 112Nm, with better driveability and enhanced fuel economy, according to HT Auto. This mild hybrid is likely to offer it with a five-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox options. However when it comes to power and torque, it could offer less than the previous model, with 80 bhp of maximum power and 112 Nm of peak torque. Despite this, the mileage that the new Swift assures is 25.72 kmpl.
