Market cap of BSE firms cross Rs 400 lakh crore just 9 months after touching Rs 300 lakh crore

The collective market capitalisation of the companies listed in BSE have surpassed the Rs 400 lakh crore milestone for the first time as the Sensex struck a lifetime high on Monday.

Besides rise in stock markets, new listings on Dalal Street also contributed to the bull run. Since April 2023, the combined market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies have surged 57 per cent, gaining Rs 145 lakh crore.

Major sectors contributing to the the rally are realty, PSU banks, auto, energy, infra and pharmaceuticals. Large cap indices hiked 28.6 per cent while mid cap jumped 60 per cent and small cap leaped 63 per cent.

BSE touched the Rs 100 lakh crore for the first time in March 2014, Rs 200 lakh crore in February 2021 and Rs 300 lakh crore in July 2023. The Rs 50 lakh crore milestone was achieved in 2007.

In terms of dollars, BSE crossed the $4 trilion mark on November 29, 2023. BSE was the fifth market in the world to achieve the feat after the US, China, Japan and Hong Kong.
