Indian Institute Of Technology - Madras alumni Pavan Davuluri has been named the new chief of Microsoft Windows and Surface after Panos Panay resigned from the post.

Microsoft’s head of experiences and devices, Rajesh Jha, in an internal memo, said the decision to bring together the two teams will enable the company to "take a holistic approach to building silicon, systems, experiences, and devices that span Windows client and cloud for this AI era.”

"The Windows team will continue to work closely with the Microsoft AI team on AI, silicon, and experiences," the note from Jha further said.

Davuluri has been part of Microsoft for more than 23 years. Before his appointment was announced, he was the corporate vice president of Windows + Devices. He also served in the company as the corporate vice president, Windows Silicon & Systems Integration, general manager of Surface, and platform development manager.
