American cloud computing–based data cloud company Snowflake, on Thursday, announced that Indian-origin Sridhar Ramaswamy has been appointed as the CEO of the company. Ramaswamy joins a long list of Indian-origin CEOs like Sundar Pichai of Google and Satya Nadella of Microsoft who head global conglomerates.
Sridhar Ramaswamy will replace long-time CEO Frank Slootman, who was behind Snowflake's initial public offering in 2020. Slootman retired on February 27.
“I am honoured and beyond excited as we start a new phase of the Snowflake journey together,” Ramaswamy wrote on LinkedIn, calling the company “once-in-a-generation” and “a truly special place.”
“I love our customer-first obsession to deliver a tightly integrated and efficient platform. I am excited by the expansiveness of our vision around a true Data Cloud: where data and applications come together for our customers and our developer partners.”
“I can't wait to show customers the massive business value we can deliver together with AI!,” he wrote.
According to his LinkedIn bio, Sridhar Ramaswamy is a “technologist and humanist focused on harnessing the power of software for social good.”
He completed his BTech in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology in 1989 and did his PhD in Computer Science from Brown University in in Providence, Rhode Island.
He joined Snowflake in 2023. Ramaswamy co-founded Neeva, a search engine that uses generative AI, which was acquired by Snowflake in 2023.
Ramaswamy worked with Google for 15 years, holding prominent positions in the company, before co-founding Neeva.
"There is no better person than Sridhar to lead Snowflake into this next phase of growth and deliver on the opportunity ahead in AI and machine learning," said Slootman, endorsing Ramaswamy.
