Indian Railways: RPF saved 262 passengers from being run over, reunited 601 kids with families in October

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has saved the lives of 262 passengers who had come close to getting run over by trains, at platforms and railway tracks in October, under its operation 'Jeevan Raksha' (Saving Lives).

A government release said the force played a major role in reuniting more than 601 children, who were separated from their families for various reasons. It has also rescued 39 persons from human traffickers.

The government said RPF takes the security of women passengers seriously and launched the 'Meri Saheli' initiative. Teams of 'Meri Saheli' attended 13,664 trains and provided security assurance to 4,23,803 lady passengers. It has also initiated action against 5,722 persons found in coaches reserved for women.

As part of its operations to curb drug-related crimes, RPF arrested 99 individuals and seized narcotics worth Rs. 5.99 crore, apart from seizing illegal tobacco products worth Rs. 10,33,149 and illegal liquor worth Rs. 26,12,656.

RPF promptly addressed security-related passenger complaints through Rail Madad Portal and the helpline. Over 30,300 complaints were received in October 2023, the government said.

It has also arrested 256 criminals involved in offenses against passengers, and apprehended 33 individuals who pelted stones at running trains.
