IT giant Wipro, which had recently fired hundreds of freshers and delayed onboarding of 2022 batch recruits, has reportedly asked candidates who were made an earlier offer if they can join the company for lower pay.

According to a Moneycontrol report, candidates who were hired offering Rs 6.5 lakh per annum have now been asked if are willing to join the company for an annual pay of Rs 3.5 lakh.

Those willing to accept the offer can join the company in March.

On February 16, candidates who have been waiting for onboarding and who were offered an annual pay of Rs 6.5 lakh, received a mail saying like other companies, Wipro too is assessing global economies and customer needs that factor into their hiring plans.

Thanking the candidates who have been waiting for their offer letter, for their patience, the mail from Wipro read: "Currently, we have certain Project Engineer roles available for recruitment with an annual compensation of INR 3.5 lakhs. We would like to offer all our Velocity graduates in the FY23 batch an opportunity to opt for these roles.”

'Elite' and 'Turbo' are the two hiring programmes of Wipro. While 'Elite' candidates were offered an annual pay of Rs 3.5 lakh, 'Turbo' candidates were offered Rs 6.5 lakh. 'Elite' candidates can move to 'Turbo' by completing the upskilling process through a training progamme called 'Velocity'.

“If you choose to accept this offer, all previous offers will stand void," the company said and urged freshers to grab this time-bound offer.

The candidates have the option not to accept the offer and hold on to the first offer they were. Wipro, however, made it clear that it cannot give them a date of joining as their "hiring plans are being determined based on the prevailing economic environment and evolving customer needs."
