Hundreds of fresher employees of IT giant Infosys were asked to leave after they failed an internal assessment test.

This comes barely weeks after another IT major, Wipro, fired several freshers for repeated poor performance in assessments after training.

According to a Business Today report, Infosys fired 600 freshers after they failed the internal test.

“Two weeks ago, 208 freshers were fired after failing the FA test. In total, around 600 freshers have been fired after failing the FA test in the past few months," Business Today quoted sources as saying.

However, the company has not come out with a confirmation on the number of freshers it let go.

Some of those who were asked to leave claimed that people who were hired by Infosys before July 2022 were not affected by the layoff even as a company representative clarified that mass layoffs happen after internal tests.

The layoffs come even as hundreds of freshers are awaiting onboarding after receiving offer letters eight months ago.

A few weeks ago, Wipro, which had initiated similar action against freshers who failed the internal assessment had said, "This systematic and comprehensive performance evaluation process triggers a series of actions such as mentoring and retraining and in some cases separation of certain employees from the company."
