Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) today confirmed that the TKM Employee’s Union has officially called off the ongoing labour strike at its factory in Bidadi, Karnataka, four months after it first began in November over the suspension of an employee.

“Although a majority of members from a total of 3,350 employees had already voluntarily resumed work earlier, the labour strike that has been continuing has now officially come to an end today. TKM is very grateful to the Government of Karnataka and the Department of Labor, who have played a crucial role in facilitating the reconciliation, between all parties,” the company said in a statement.

“Furthermore, on March 1, TKM has accepted the undertaking given by Union leaders on behalf of the members that was presented by them to the Govt. The company has also made a final appeal to all the other members to return to work by March 5, 2021, and ensure synergies based on mutual trust for the future and to respect the terms of their mutual understanding,” it added.

“Going forward, TKM will continue to work towards strengthening this value system by fostering relationships based on collaboration, trust, discipline and mutual respect,” the company said.

The announcements comes after TKM on Monday said it sold a total of 14,075 units in February 2021, clocking a 36 per cent growth in domestic salesnt said.

Senior Vice President at TKM, Naveen Soni said "new launches like the new 'Fortuner' and 'Legender' introduced in January and the new 'Innova Crysta' launched in November 2020, have received a phenomenal response".

The initial response to the strike saw the company declare a lock-out, declaring the strike illegal. IT accused the employee of having a systematic record of misconduct and being involved in a “breach of discipline” and “unacceptable behaviour”. 40 employees were later suspended by the company; among the union leaders’ demands was the revocation of this suspension.
