The government is planning to make automotive technology the flag bearer of its 'Make in India' mantra. To boost further collaboration in automotive technologies like autonomous vehicles, electric powered vehicles, alternate fuel engines and others, it is organising a NuGen Mobility Summit later this year.

The global mobility event would be hosted at the Manesar campus of the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT). Manesar is home to a number of auto manufacturers, and many global manufacturers are also expected to attend the two-day event from November 27.

"This event will help building a platform for bringing together all stakeholders in the automotive industry to understand global advancements in technologies," said Dinesh Tyagi, director, ICAT.

The automotive test research facility in Manesar was formed in 2007 by the department of heavy industries. ICAT currently serves the government's National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrstructure Project (NATRIP) as its principal automotive testing and research agency in north India.

For the event ICAT would also be opening up one of its largest testing facility. Several tracks such as coast down track, oval track, abs track, hill track and flood track would be created to test various advances in automotive technology and would be accesible for public viewing.

"We have seen positive responses from more than 2,500 participants and 250 exhibitors so far. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), NATRIP, Ministry of road transport and highways, Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) among others are our partners for this mobility event," said A.R. Sihag, secretary, department of heavy industries.

Experts working with leading scientific and research organisations and testing laboratories from countries like USA, Europe, Japan and other Asian countries would share their experiences on development of smart and green technologies, and the challenges that the industry needs to overcome.

Major original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and electric vehicle manufacturers are also backing the event with sponsorship and participation to showcase the latest advances in green mobility.

Track demonstrations, drive-touch-feel activity and lab demonstrations on upcoming vehicle technologies like connected mobility, autonomous vehicles, electric mobility, alternate fuels, intelligent transportation system, hydrogen fuel cell, hydrogen IC engine, vehicle dynamics, use of advance materials and recycling would remain the highlights at this unique automotive event.
