Aus Open: Dimitrov tames Rublev, Bopanna-Roger-Vasselin advance

Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov reached the fourth round of the Australian Open after taming Russia's Andrey Rublev 6-3 4-6 6-4 6-4.

Dimitrov, who was ahead by a set at one point, was tested by the young Russian. Rublev broke twice to level the match and was ahead in the third set. However, Dimitrov upped his game to recover and claimed victory in the fourth one.

Dimitrov will face Nick Kyrgios, who beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-6(5) 4-6 7-6(6) 7-6(5) for a place in the last eight.

In the men's doubles, Indian Rohan Bopanna and his French partner Edouard Roger-Vasselin stormed into the pre-quarterfinals of the tournament with a comfortable straight sets win over Argentina's Leonardo Mayer and Portugal's Joao Sousa.

In what was a one-sided affair that lasted an hour and 17 minutes, Bopanna and Roger-Vasselin dominated the match and won 6-2, 7-6 (7-3).

The Indo-French pair will play seventh-seeds Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic in the pre-quarters.

Meanwhile, the Indian duo of Divij Sharan and Rajeev Ram advanced to the last-16 of the men’s doubles event.

Divij and Rajeev overcame the challenge posed by Italy’s Fabio Fognini and Spain’s Marcel Granollers 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.

The pair will now face the winners of the match between Lukasz Kubot-Marcelo Melo and Max Purcell-Luke Saville in the next round.
